All Tied Up

Posted on Thursday 19th May, 2011

Tied up emergency cordAnnoying isn't it how those very helpful emergency cords in accessible toilets are always tied-up out of the way by the cleaners who obviously find them incredibly irritating to work around.

I think this one takes the biscuit: spotted in London's Westfield Shopping Centre yesterday, it looks more like a lesson in Japanese rope bondage.  Even my dextrous assistant took a good five minutes or so to unpick and unravel it.

I wonder what the Westfield Press Office will have to say about it? I'll keep you posted!

Loved the absolutely brilliant way Roy from the I.T.  Crowd gets all tied up himself when he uses the wrong loo's and pulls the emergency cord by mistake.  Serves him right.

My experience has been that we (the users) are the ones who tangle them up! Some can be very lazy and haphazard

My thanks to the Westfield PR people for this rapid response:

"The cleaning staff at Westfield London are trained and instructed not to adjust the alarm and safety equipment in the disabled toilets.  They regularly inspect all toilets and are instructed to call our facilities team immediately to report any such issues.  We apologise that you found the facility to have been tampered with and following your findings we have re-briefed the relevant staff to be more aware of this."
